«PRESERVE»: Protecting Public Spaces in the EU from Emerging Hostile Drone Threats.

The Hellenic Police actively participates in the implementation of the research project PRESERVE (Protecting euRopean public spaces against Emergent hoStile drone thrEats thRough an adVanced multidimensional shield and cross-border intelligEnce), funded by the “Horizon-Europe” program. The project aims to develop a reliable, transparent, and user-friendly hybrid C-UAS (Command and Control) platform to support security authorities in preventing, detecting, and managing threats related to drones. The project focuses on enhancing citizen safety in public spaces while strengthening the EU’s counter-drone policy.

The project started on October 1, 2024, and will last for 36 months. Fourteen (14) organizations from ten (10) countries participate, with the Spanish company ETRA INVESTIGACION Y DESARROLLO SA (ETRA) acting as the coordinator.

Main objectives of the project:

  • Development of innovative products such as:
    • “Swarm-based C-UAS Arsenal” (P1-SECURE)
    • “Online Drone Intelligence Engine” (ODIN)
    • The “PRESERVE” platform as an integrated solution
    • C-UAV training program
  • Utilizing heterogeneous data from physical sensors and online sources to counter drone threats.
  • Application and validation in real-world environments through Pilot Use Cases (PUC).

 Expected benefits:

  • Enhanced safety of public spaces.
  • Development of training tools and exercises for security authorities.
  • Promotion of legislative compliance and trust in AI technologies

The participation of the Hellenic Police in the project enables it to lead the Pilot Use Case (PUC), which will be conducted at the facilities of the Directorate of Special Police Forces. Through this initiative, end-users will have the opportunity to utilize the integrated threat management system in an operational environment that closely simulates real-world conditions. The goal is to derive valuable insights that will contribute to strengthening the protection and security of public spaces in the EU.
