Pay scales for police officers are identical to those of the Armed Forces officers, and are specified by provisions of Law 2448/1996, as amended and in force today.
Apart from a principal wage scale, salaries are augmented by various benefits and allowances.
Specifically, extra allowances are based on length of service, marital status, pay scale difference adjustments, special duties, management/ administrative duties, extraordinary duties and operational readiness. Holiday pay and Christmas and Easter bonuses are also paid each year.
Allowances are also paid in cases where officers work away from their normal posting; work in excess of five days per week or as a volunteer for foot patrols.
Officers injured or killed in the line of duty as a result of a terrorist attack or violent incident receive special pension treatment (as do their families in case of the latter).
