Hellenic Police`s staff consists of police officers and civilians, Border Guards and Special Police Guards. 
 
Police officers can be divided into those carrying out general and those with special duties.
 
General assignment officers serve in all departments of Hellenic Police. Officers assigned with special duties serve in specialized departments and include scientists, such as physicians of various specializations, biologists, chemists, auditors etc. Civilian staff can be divided into permanent staff members and those on contract. Civilian staff members are primarily assigned administrative duties.
 
Special Police Guards and Border Guards constitute special categories of officers within Hellenic Police. 
 
Special Hellenic Police Guards are primarily assigned the task of guarding vulnerable targets and carrying out patrols, while the Border Guards mission is to combat illegal immigration.
