Coordination and Administration of the Olympic Security Μεγέθυνση κειμένου Σμίκρυνση κειμένου Print E-mail

In order to guarantee the unified administration and the coordinated action of all Agencies involved, the existing structures have been utilized and new structures were created, according to the model of the Olympic Security Administration, a relevant structure that was applied in past Olympic Games.

In a Political level, institutionally responsible for the coordination is the Minister of Public Order, under whose authority a Political Coordinative Body functions and in which the basic Agencies involved in the Olympic Security are being represented (affiliated Ministries, the National Intelligence Service, the Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games ATHENS 2004 etc), responsible for taking decisions concerning essential matters of the Olympic Security.

In a Strategic level, the Administration is being carried out by the Olympic Security Strategic Center, based in the Ministry of Public Order headed by the Chief of the Hellenic Police.

The Operational Administration, is being carried out through the Olympic Security Center, based in the Attica General Police Division. It is there where all Agencies Involved (Hellenic Police, The Coast Guard, The Fire Brigade, the Armed Forces, The Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games ATHENS 2004, The National Ambulance Service, The General Secretariat of Civil Protection, The Financial Crime Special Unit, Customs, The National Weather Forecasting Service, The Civil Aviation Service, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, The Ministry of Justice, The Ministry of Transport and Communication, The Public Power Corporation, The Organization of Hellenic Telecommunications, The Public Gas Corporation, The Athens Water Supply and Sewerage Company, The Municipality of Athens, The Regional Union of Municipalities and Communities). It is there where all actions including all the Olympic cities, are being coordinated from.

In a Tactical level all Olympic venues dispose independent Operational Centers interconnected with the Olympic Security Command Center, where the Agencies Involved are being represented.

For this specific operational period, there is a Council of Crisis Management, headed by the Chief of the Hellenic Police, with the participation of the Chief of the Coast Guard, the Fire Brigade, the 1st Deputy-Governor of the National Intelligence Service, the Supreme Officer of the National Defense General Staff, the Director of the Olympic Games Security, a Representative of the General Secretariat of Civil Protection and a Representative of the Olympic Games General Secretary as well as the Managing Director of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games (ATHOC) Organizing Committee. The Director of the Olympic Security Center, the Head of the Joint Information Group and Hellenic Police`s Press Spokesman also participate on the Crisis Management Council.
