The Hellenic Police Force is now provided with a Center of Further Education and Training, a real match for those of other European Police Forces.
 
Here are some school classes we can indeed be proud of...
The School of Further Education and Training operates in order to upgrade and improve the level of knowledge of the Hellenic Police Force Staff. The School`s mission is to provide further training, education and specialization to the police staff, both in matters of everyday police concern and in new techniques and/or methods contributing substantially to the fight against crime.
 
The School was founded in 1996 and is subject to the provisions of the Presidential Decree 190/1996 "Institution of the School for Further Education and Training and other related issues", as it was amended with the Presidential Decrees 69/97, 385/98 and 45/2000.
 
The School of Further Education and Training of the Hellenic Police Force is based in the department of Attica, it constitutes a Police Division and operates under the Police Academy. Moreover, a branch of this School is running in Thessalonica, at the level of the Police Sub-Division and is under the Attica School, from the administrative point of view.
The Mission of the School is to:
1) Provide further education and training to the police staff, via courses and seminars.
2) Organize promotional examinations (for the ranks of Police Warrant Officers and Police Second Lieutenants).
3) Organize examinations of entry to the Departments of Further Education for Police Lieutenants and of Foreign Languages.
4) Train and educate civilians hired for the security and patrolling of facilities or venues belonging to Legal Persons of Public Law, Welfare Organizations and Associations as well as Cash Transfer escorts.
5) Train the Armed Forces and the Coast Guard on matters of police concern.
6) Train the uniform-bearing staff of the Municipal Police, in accordance with the Joint Ministerial Decision 8038/13/44-α on 17-8-2005.
 
The teaching staff of the School includes permanent, deputies, assistants and lecturer professors of Universities. Furthermore, Officers of the Police Force - highly experienced and with specialized knowledge - may also teach.
 
The School is comprised of the Headquarters and the Educational Sectors.
The Headquarters are structured in the following Departments:
  •  Of Internal Functions,
  •  Of Studies and Public Relations,
  •  Of Fiduciary Management and Logistics.
 

 

 


 

The Educational Sectors are the following:
 
1) Department of Professional Training of Police Officers - Executives
Officers holding the rank of Police Captain, having studied at the School of Police Officers, must follow these courses in order to be promoted to the rank of Police Majors. Studies last from 3 to 6 months.
 
2) Department of Professional Training of Police Second Lieutenants
Police Second Lieutenants enter this department after sitting the relative examinations held and organized exclusively by the School. Studies last from 7 to 9 months and graduates are promoted to the rank of Police Lieutenant. The number of admitted studies is set by the Chief of the Hellenic Police Force.
 
3) Department of Foreign Languages
Independent courses of foreign languages (mainly English) are given in this department. Studies last from 6 to 9 months and are structured in different levels. Several sections are operating, such as those of Officers and Members of Staff of University Education, or of Police Second Lieutenants - Constables - Sergeants and Members of Staff of Secondary Education.
 
4) Department of Police Officers` Training
This department offers further education, training and specialization to the Police Force Officers and to the civilian employees holding a University or a technical decree. Students are trained on issues regarding road traffic, public safety, state security, foreigners, drugs and other matters of police concern. The duration of studies and the number of trainees are set by the Education Division of the Hellenic Police Force Headquarters.
 
5) Department of Low-Rank Officers` Training
This department provides further education, training and specialization to Police Second Lieutenants, Police Constables and Police Sergeants as well as to the civilian employees of secondary education of the Hellenic Police Force. As mentioned in the previous paragraph, students are also trained on matters of police concern. The duration of studies and the number of trainees are set in this case too by the Education Division of the Hellenic Police Force Headquarters.
 
6) Department of Special Police Training (Weapons - Self-Defense - Self-Protection)
This department provides training to the members of the Police Force on self defence and protection, on the handling and use of weapons and on shooting. It is based in Lagonissi, Attica and it is housed in modern, state-of-the-art facilities, including, among others, a judo-karate venue, a room adequately structured for simulated use of short-barrel firearms and shooting, as well as other educational and support facilities.
 
7) Department of Further Education and Training of police dogs instructors -companions and of explosive devices disposal experts
This department provides training and specialization to police dogs` instructors as well as training for detecting and disposing explosive devices.
 
THESSALONICA BRANCH OF THE SCHOOL OF FURTHER EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Under the Presidential Decree 385/98, as of 5-3-1999, the School`s Branch in Thessalonica has been running, including the following Departments:
a. Department of Further Education and Training of Police Officers - Executives.
b. Department of Professional Training of Police Second Lieutenants.
c. Department of Foreign Languages.
d. Department of Police Officers` Further Education and Training.
e. Department of Further Education and Training of Police Second Lieutenants - Constables - Sergeants.
 
The Thessalonica Branch provides training so as to cover the needs of North Greece.


                      
STATE-OF-THE-ART FACILITIES
The facilities of the School include modern infrastructures and equipment so as to offer the best possible training and education.
 
In particular, the school is equipped with:
  • Three (3) computer rooms,  
  • A modern, open shooting ground with moving and fixed targets,
  • Hotel facilities so that trainees can also reside there, if they prefer.
The School is provided with newly built and modern rooms (of one, two or four beds), fully furnished, with air-condition, television and refrigerator.
 
Moreover, trainees may also eat at the restaurant of the Police Officers" School.
